Call for Volunteer Career Advisors

February 27 2012 at 1:16pm Madrid & Central Spain

Globiles is intended to make life easier for international professionals and one way we can do this is for more experienced members to share their advice and experience with members at the early stages of their careers.

I would like to kick this off by establishing a small group of volunteers who are prepared to spend some time with one or two less experienced members during 2012 to help with questions on their careers. These questions could range from moving companies sectors, locations, companies or simply doing better in their current employer, to starting their own business or raising finance for a new endeavour.

It may well be something you already do with others, either informally or formally. I personally get tremendous satisfaction from helping younger professionals grow in their career.

I don't want to be prescriptive about this and would welcome your  suggestions including any limitations you would propose to your personal involvement. My idea is that prior to assigning any advisee, we would filter and match requests from members for such advice against the interests and offers of the potential Advisors. The commitment of the Advisor could be for an initial discussion (in person or skype) of maximum 30 minutes followed by other calls, emails or skypes as necessary during the year. The Advisor will be able to limit how much time he/she is spending at any time.

In exchange for this pioneering involvement, the Advisor would receive 500 points and Pioneer status (see Points and Privileges page) which entitles you to share in the profit pool of Globiles from 1/1/13.

I will be one of the Advisors and hope you will join me on this exciting initiative.

Morning Andrew, I still have fond memories of attending our annual PW training events on the South coast of England. Trust you are well.  Regarding the career advisors role that you posted above, I would be happy to help people looking for advice and guidance on how to construct a strong & meaningful career.

It's part of the day-job anyway - look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind Regards

    Conrad Rafique

Many thanks Conrad, I will be in touch shortly to suggest next steps. We already have several replies from other volunteers so it looks like we will have a good group

Hi Andrew, Happy to join this program. Great initiative. I guess each member of this new program should be able to indicate on which areas he would be most suited to provide advice, i.e. sector, proficiency, international relocation advice etc. instead of automatically using our profiles to decide on that. Another idea could be for the advisee to post a question or extent of advice needed to the advisors group (seperate are on globiles) and let advisers reply to what extent they are willing/able to help after which the advisee could select his/her preferred advisor.
