  • Food & Drink - Caña y Café Added 07/03/12 by Jonathan Spencer
For my money the most exciting kitchen in Inwood. Like many of the Dominican fusion places, the restaurant is almost sleepy in the early evening then livens up late at night.

Great food - I wouldn't talk you out of anything on the menu.

Probably everyone remembers where they were on Sept 11, 2001. The site has now been turned into a memorial. The Tribute WTC is one of several museums where if you are visiting New York for the first time, you can see the story of what happened and what has happened since.

  • Food & Drink - Sarabeth's Kitchen Added 17/12/11 by Jesus Fernandez Munoz
In 1981, Sarabeth began making Orange-Apricot Marmalade from her home kitchen from a 200 year old family recipe and selling it to local food shops. From that humble beginning, Sarabeth with her husband and business partner, Bill Levine, now own and operate a jam factory, a wholesale-retail bakery café and nine restaurants. It is a true American success story.

I have fond memories of having a classic French dinner many years ago in Le Perigord with a good friend and colleague. I see Le Perigord recently celebrated 45 years in the business. I hope they have not changed!

  • Things to do - MOMA Added 02/12/11 by Andrew Stott
No trip to New York is complete without a visit to the Museum of Modern Art. Currently showing until May 2012 is an exhibition of the Mexican artist Diego Rivera's murals done originally for the second exhibition of MOMA in 1931. I wish I was there!

  • Food & Drink - Eleven Madison Park Added 02/12/11 by Andrew Stott
Eleven Madison Park is increasingly making waves within international circles and is the second-highest climber on this year's San Pellegrino top 50 restaurants in the world. The restaurant recently underwent considerable change with chef Daniel Humm and general manager Will Guidara reducing capacity from 114 covers to 80 and completely revamping the menu. There's no more à la carte. Instead, a card printed with a grid of 16 ingredients hints at the dishes available.

  • Food & Drink - Per Se Added 02/12/11 by Andrew Stott
As the highest ranked US restaurant in the 2011 San Pellegrino guide to the world's best restaurants, Per Se, Thomas Keller's “urban interpretation” of his French Laundry in California, has changed its menu every day of its nearly eight years – that's something like 30,000 different dishes, some re-introduced from prior seasons but continuously refined.

With three Michelin stars it has succeeded as much by consistency as by creativity and remains one of the US's true destination restaurants.

I was fortunate enough to have been there in the early days of the restaurant and remember it as being spectacularly good.

  • Food & Drink - Daniel Added 02/12/11 by Andrew Stott
Located in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Daniel the restaurant is the brainchild of Daniel the chef! (Daniel Boulud, to be exact). It was the second highest ranked US restaurant at 11th in the world in the 2011 (down from 8th in 2010) San Pellegrino list of the World’s Best Restaurants.

This highly talented chef marries classic French cuisine with American style and flair. His tasting menus are extensive and if you like this restaurant, you may want to try others in his flourishing empire.
